Builder proposes new office on Broad Street near Lake Olmstead (theaugustapress.com) — A local builder wants to turn several parcels on Broad Street near Lake Olmstead into a larger contractor's office and laydown yard, requiring rezoning to Light Industrial. Augusta's Planning Commission will review the proposal for 1730 Broad Street and two nearby properties on Sept. 2, potentially reshaping how that stretch of Broad is used.
   

2. Class of 2030 welcomed at Freshman Convocation (augusta.edu) — Augusta University has officially welcomed the Class of 2030, bringing more than 12,600 students to campus as fall begins in Augusta's late-summer heat. New Jaguars heard motivational messages from university leaders, took part in traditions like the Arsenal Bell and class pinning, and celebrated with pie and brunch while getting their first real taste of campus life.
   

3. Greenbrier Volleyball blocking out the noise as 2026 season continues (wrdw.com) — Greenbrier High's volleyball team is off to a strong 9-2 start, dominating most CSRA opponents as they push toward a deep state playoff run. Players and coaches in the Augusta-area program say their tight-knit chemistry and focus on each match are key, with a big test against Statesboro coming up on August 25.
   

4. Non-profits step in to help Teachers with out-of-pocket spending (wrdw.com) — Teachers in the Augusta area are still spending hundreds of dollars out of pocket on classroom supplies, but local nonprofits and school districts are stepping up with new support. Groups like Public Education Partners and the Greater Augusta Arts Initiative are offering grants and low-cost resources, while Columbia and Richmond County schools highlight funding programs aimed at easing the burden on educators.
