Augusta residents raise questions about future data center development (augustachronicle.com) — Augusta officials are drafting a data center ordinance that could shape noise, zoning, and environmental rules for future facilities near local neighborhoods, and residents are pressing for clearer answers. After a packed public meeting in Hephzibah, one final session is set for Thursday evening at Warren Road Community Center so you can weigh in before commissioners decide.
   

2. Rotten food, maggots and human waste found where six children lived in Augusta (theaugustapress.com) — Authorities say six children were found living in a filthy Augusta home on Mike Padgett Highway, with no running water, unusable toilets, and strong odors of waste and decay. Their mother, 33-year-old Tisheika Washington, was arrested on six counts of second-degree cruelty to children and is being held without bond at Charles B. Webster Detention Center.
   

3. Alarms fail to sound after fire breaks out in Augusta University dormitory. (wfxg.com) — A recent kitchen fire in Augusta University's Elm Hall dorm was extinguished without injuries, but the building's audible alarm failed to sound, raising safety concerns for students. University officials say fire drills are conducted quarterly and that third-party inspectors have since verified alarm systems in Elm and Oak halls as fully operational while the cause of the failure is investigated.
   

4. Augusta Duck Dash Returns Oct. 3 to Fund Beds for Children (wgac.com) — Families around Augusta can support local children who lack beds by sponsoring rubber ducks in the Augusta Duck Dash at Savannah Rapids on Oct. 3. Hosted by the YMCA of Greater Augusta, the race and festival will fund A Place to Dream, which has already provided more than 2,000 beds and cribs to kids across the area.
   

5. Three Augusta area students named to Georgia's Nineteen Under Nineteen (augustachronicle.com) — Three students from the Augusta area have been named to Junior Achievement of Georgia's 2026–27 Nineteen Under Nineteen list, earning scholarships and statewide recognition for leadership and community impact. Local honorees from Cross Creek, Greenbrier, and Columbia Virtual Academy will be celebrated at the JA Greater Augusta Business Hall of Fame in March.
