• Ex coach convicted of child sex crimes (times-georgian.com) — A Haralson County jury has convicted former Bremen High School coach Geoffrey Matthews on 13 child sex crime charges after an 11-day trial. Prosecutors presented testimony from seven victims tied to Bremen High and others describing similar abuse. The district attorney praised the victims’ courage, and Matthews is scheduled for sentencing on Oct. 6 in Haralson County Superior Court. 
• Bremen softball falls in ranked region matchup (times-georgian.com) — Bremen High’s softball team dropped a tight 2-0 road game at Armuchee, creating a three-way tie with Heard County atop Region 6-AA. Despite a strong outing from pitcher Savannah Langley, a key fourth-inning error proved costly. Bremen, now 14-6 overall and 7-2 in region play, will try to rebound at home against Darlington on Thursday.
