Kayaker, 61, Rescued After Flipping Over in Chatthoochee River
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Friday.

A kayaker who flipped over on the Chattahoochee River late Friday afternoon was rescued by the Gwinnett County Fire Swift Water Team, authorities said.

His life vest apparently helped save his life.
The man, 61, had flipped over and became distressed while attempting to get back into the kayak around 4:30 p.m. Friday. The incident happened between McGinnis Ferry and Rodgers Bridge Road. He was rescued about a half-mile south of McGinnis Ferry and later assessed and released by paramedics.

“The victim’s life safety vest played a vital role in rescuing the victim from the river,” Gwinnett Fire Lt. Jerrod Barrett said. “Everyone is strongly encouraged to wear their safety vest whenever swimming, boating, skiing or any other types of activities near water.”
