Weather Update: Check Buford, Gwinnett Power Outages Via Online Map

Thousands of north Georgians were without power in the aftermath of the winter storm that roared through the state Monday night and Tuesday morning.

As of 11 a.m., crews were busy restoring power that had been knocked out by ice and fallen trees. Most of the areas affected were northeast of Atlanta, from Gwinnett County northward, and eastward to the Athens area.

Walton EMC reported more than 100,000 were without power as of 11 a.m. — including 67,000 in Gwinnett and 25,000 in Walton County.

Georgia Power reported more than 60,000 customers were without power as of 11 a.m., including more than 8,000 in the Buford-Sugar Hill area.

Crews have made progress on restoring power. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported 220,000 customers were without power as of 5:45 a.m., including 92,000 Georgia Power customers.
