Acid Spill In Canton Prompts Hazmat Response

There were no injuries after the spill Friday, and traffic was impacted for about an hour and a half.

CANTON, GA — A muriatic acid spill Friday afternoon at Springs Crossing and Blankets Creek Parkway prompted a hazmat response from the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services Department.

The fire department said there were no injuries, and traffic was impacted due to the spill for about an hour and a half. The roadway was shut down while Cherokee County's Hazardous Materials Team neutralized the spill and cleaned the road.

Fire officials did not say what caused the spill.

"CCFES operates one of the most well trained and equipped hazardous materials teams in Georgia. The Hazardous Materials Team is staffed with firefighters who have received extensive training and experience as haz-mat technicians. The team responds to incidents across Cherokee County and to requests for assistance from other communities all across northern Georgia," the fire department said in the statement.
