Air Force Staff Sergeant Convicted Of Assaulting Girlfriend: DA

The 42-year-old man was accused of strangulation and was sentenced to prison, according to the district attorney's office.

CANTON, GA — An Air Force sergeant was recently convicted of aggravated assault-strangulation after being accused of abusing his girlfriend in June 2022 in Holly Springs, Acting District Attorney Susan K. Treadaway said in a Tuesday news release.

A Cherokee County jury found Air Force Staff Sgt. Sean David Glover, 42, guilty on March 23, Treadaway said.

Chief Superior Court Judge Ellen McElyea sentenced him to 20 years with the first 15 years to serve in a state prison. He must also pay restitution, have no contact with the woman or witnesses, participate in the Family Violence Intervention Program and adhere to other special conditions.

Glover had been on trial for charges of rape, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and battery, Treadaway said.

The assault occurred on June 20, 2022, in a Holly Springs apartment, Treadaway said, adding Glover entered the apartment between 1 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. using a spare key.

Glover told police his girlfriend had been "acting weird" and he thought she might have been communicating with an ex. After he read her text messages, Treadaway said Glover became angry. He was then accused of physically and sexually assaulting the woman.

“Medical research indicates that in severe cases of strangulation, unconsciousness may occur in seconds, and death in just minutes," Assistant District Attorney Alex Sloope, of the Domestic Violence Unit, said in the news release. Sloope assisted with the prosecution of the case on behalf of the state.

"Therefore, it is not uncommon for victims to experience blackouts, as was the case here. Fortunately, the victim in this case was able to recall details of that night that substantiate the violent assault. She also had physical injuries consistent with the violent attack.”

Holly Springs Police arrested Glover at Dobbins Air Force Base, where he worked in Security Forces. Glover admitted to police officers that a physical altercation occurred but said he did not know how the woman received her injuries, Treadaway said.

“Through this sentence, the defendant receives justice for his actions and our community is protected,” Treadaway said in the release. “We are proud of this young woman who showed tremendous courage by standing up for herself and ensuring that justice was served. With this conviction and sentencing, it is our hope that she will continue to heal from the trauma she endured at the hands of this defendant.”
