Blue Bell Ice Cream Recall Expanded To Include All Products

The company believes its products may be contaminated with Listeria.

Texas-based Blue Bell Ice Cream is now expanding its recall to include all of its products due to persistent fears that these items may be contaminated with Listeria.

The recall, which was originally issued March 23, was only limited to 3-ounce institutional/food service cups of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla. Now, the expansion includes all of its products currently on the market that were made at its facilities.

This includes ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet and frozen snacks “because they have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said in its alert.

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the federal agency added.

Blue Bell’s first recall in more than 100 years was issued in early March when listeria bacteria were discovered in samples of such products as Blue Bell Chocolate Chip Country Cookies, Vanilla Stick Slices, Cotton Candy Bars and No Sugar Added Moo Bars, the Palm Beach Post reported.
