Here are the top five stories today in Canton and Sixes:
- The Canton City Council voted to deny Terry Russell's applications for rental townhomes along Bluffs Parkway. Russell had applied to build a 181-unit rental townhome
development. The master plan amendment and conditional use permit were both denied. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News) - Cherokee County Fire and Emergencies officials reported a fire at a home on Holly Street in Canton on Thursday night, Sep. 15. Two people were in the home at the time of the fire, but officials said there were no injuries and both were safe. As of Sep. 16, the fire is still being investigated. (Canton-Sixes Patch)
- On Thursday, Sep. 15, the Cherokee County school board approved rules of conduct for visitors to its monthly meetings. The vote was unanimous. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger News)
- District Attorney Shannon Wallace announced that 23-year-old Lomack Deamonte Pridgen was sentenced to 12 years in prison without the possibility of parole and life on probation for aggravated child molestation, aggravated sexual battery, and child molestation. After being arrested in September 2021 in Cherokee County, Pridgen plead guilty on Jun. 27 to molesting an 11-year-old girl. (Georgia Patch)
