Canton Man Charged In Hit-And-Run Collision
A pedestrian was hit by a truck Nov. 12 along Evans Cook Road near Epperson Road.

CANTON, GA -- The Georgia State Patrol has made an arrest in a hit-and-run crash that left a Canton man with serious injuries.
James Edward Powell, 62, was booked into the Cherokee County Jail on Monday, Nov. 14 and charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, the agency confirmed to Patch.
Powell was arrested at his home after state troopers from Post 28 in Jasper received a tip.

Troopers were dispatched around 4:40 p.m. Nov. 12 of a pedestrian who was hit by a truck along Evans Cook Road near Epperson Road, which is located to the south of Cumming Highway near Canton.
Witnesses informed the state agency they saw a full-sized red truck leaving the scene of the crash.

The victim, 32-year-old man Brett Adam Newcomer of Canton, was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital for treatment, according to an accident report provided by the agency.
Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said Powell bonded out of jail Tuesday, Nov. 15.
