The town hall meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the River Green Heritage Club, and will focus on the intersection of S.R. 20/Knox Bridge Highway and Riverbend Way in Canton.

Ballinger said she has invited Canton and Cherokee County elected officials as well as Cherokee County School Board members to attend the meeting.

Georgia Department of Transportation District Engineer Grant Waldrop will also be on hand, Ballinger stated.

"I know that many members of the community have reached out to many of you about this dangerous intersection, especially after the tragic accident that occurred recently," Ballinger said in an email message to Canton and Cherokee County leaders. "I am hopeful that provided a proper venue to voice concerns, and with all the involved layers of government present, we will be able to develop a workable solution that will ensure people's safety."

A March 29 two-vehicle collision seriously injured Knox Elementary School student Monica Lunn. The student, along with her sister Melina and mother, were in an SUV attempting to turn left from Knox Bridge Highway/S.R. 20 on Riverbend Way when it was struck by a Ford pick-up truck, the Georgia State Patrol previously told Patch.

The accident left Monica paralyzed from the neck down, and the school is rallying behind the student and her family to help with expenses.

The club is located at 201 Clubhouse Drive in Canton.
