Women Build is a nationwide Habitat for Humanity initiative to empower women to build Habitat for Humanity homes and change the lives of families within their community. House construction is seen as a traditionally male activity. The Women Build program seeks to remove the intimidation factor of the construction site and make women feel comfortable so they realize that they, too, can “help build it!”

Habitat for Humanity-North Central Georgia’s 2015 Women Build is sponsored by Infor and will be held this spring and summer between April and August in the Villages at Park Creek neighborhood in the Hickory Flat area of Woodstock near the border of Cherokee and Fulton counties.

Fetmar Garas and his wife Roma Aziz immigrated to the United States from Egypt with their daughter, Youana. Fetmar and Roma dreamed of coming to the United States to create a better life for their family. Since arriving in the United States, Fetmar and Roma have welcomed another daughter, Youlina, and Fetmar works two jobs to support the family. The family currently lives in a two-bedroom apartment in an unsafe community, and they are excited to have a home with a small yard and a place for Youana to study once they move into their new Habitat home.

Habitat for Humanity – North Central Georgia is a non-profit, Christian housing ministry that builds simple, decent homes for purchase by low income families who demonstrate a capacity for responsible homeownership. Habitat relies on the generosity of local companies, organizations, and individuals as house sponsors who not only provide the funds but also the volunteer labor for completing the home.

Since its inception in 1995, 260 homes have been completed and over 1000 family members have been served in North Fulton, Cherokee and Forsyth/Dawson counties. Each family is required to attend 6 educational classes and perform 200-300 sweat equity hours.

Families earn between 30 and 60 percen of the Atlanta area median income and purchase their homes from Habitat which provides them with a 25-year, no-interest loan. Family members work side by side with the volunteers, sponsors, and Habitat staff to build their homes. These families not only get to experience the pride of homeownership but they also know that their lives will be changed forever.
