Inmate, 52, Dies in Cherokee County Jail

CANTON, GA -- The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the death of an inmate at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

The inmate, Deloris Ashcraft, 52, of Acworth, was found dead around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, April 17, Cherokee Sheriff's Office spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.
Baker noted Ashcraft had been at the facility since April 6 when she was arrested by deputies on simple battery (FVA), possession of methamphetamine and possession of marijuana charges.

An autopsy will be conducted by the GBI's Crime Lab this week to determine Ashcraft's cause of death. Return to Patch for updates.
