Man Charged With Entering Auto In Canton, Ball Ground

Police say the man broke into seven vehicles in Canton while stolen property relating to a Ball Ground car break-in was recovered.

CANTON, GA — A man accused in multiple car break-ins throughout Canton and one in Ball Ground was arrested Friday, Canton Police said Wednesday.

Police accused Canton resident James Norton of breaking into seven cars. Authorities began investigating Norton on March 3o after officers responded to a local car dealership, where police say three car break-ins occurred.

The next day, police said officers responded to River Walk Court, where three more car break-ins happened. The seventh car break-in occurred on April 3 at a Laurel Canyon grocery store, police said.

Authorities used camera footage from the car dealership and flock cameras to identify Norton's motorcycle, police said. Norton was accused of targeting vehicles with high-valued work tools in them.

Stolen property relating to a Ball Ground car break-in was found during the investigation, police said.

Two traffic stops were conducted on Norton, one of which was on Thursday. The second was around 9:15 a.m. Friday, when Norton was arrested after a foot chase. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office assisted with arresting him.

He is being held in the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center and is charged on suspicion of seven counts of entering auto and a host of traffic charges, including improper/erratic lane change and driving while license suspended, police said.
