Police Identify Man Killed In Restaurant Shooting

The shooting took place Thursday evening at Taqueria Oaxaquena on Marietta Road in Canton.

CANTON, GA -- A Canton man was gunned down Thursday evening at a restaurant on Marietta Road, making the fatal shooting the third homicide detectives are tasked with investigating.

Officers with the Canton Police Department were dispatched to a call of a person shot around 7:40 p.m. July 28 at Taqueria Oaxaquena, which is located at 491 Marietta Road.

Police arrived on the scene to find 41-year-old Canton resident Edel Cortes Mendoza suffering from a serious gunshot wound.

During the initial investigation of the scene and surrounding area, police located a male suspect inside the perimeter that was established when officers first arrived on the scene.

The suspect, fellow Canton resident Ylarrio Garcia Jarquin, 41, was arrested and charged with one count of murder.

Mendoza was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Jarquin was transported to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center where he remains held.

Thursday's shooting comes on the heels of the grim discovery of two siblings found dead Friday, July 22 at the Laurels at Greenwood Apartments.

The brother and sister, Omar Ruiz, 23, and Antonia Ruiz, 27, were each stabbed inside building 3000 at the Hickory Flat Highway apartment complex.

Oscar Tierrablanca, a resident of Dallas and the father of Antonia Ruiz's 18-month-old child, was been charged with two counts of malice murder in connection to the case.
