Canton leaders sustain mayor's vetoes on annexation and rezoning (newsbreak.com) — Canton's City Council has backed Mayor Bill Grant's vetoes of a major annexation and rezoning along Ball Ground Highway, halting a proposed 167-home mixed-use subdivision. Leaders now want a coordinated plan with Cherokee County and Ball Ground before reconsidering any revised proposal, especially around traffic, infrastructure, and how future growth serves existing Canton residents and taxpayers.
   

2. Canton postpones decision on 215-home development in Pearidge (newsbreak.com) — Canton officials have delayed a decision on a 215-home Hickory Ridge development in the Pearidge area, pushing the annexation and rezoning vote to Oct. 15 at City Hall. The mixed-use proposal includes new housing, community space, and road improvements, but city leaders and residents are pressing for clearer plans and timelines to fix dangerous nearby intersections before approving such a large project.
   

3. 'Is this about the girl?': Man convicted of Acworth attempted rape (fox5atlanta.com) — A Cherokee County jury in Canton has convicted 33-year-old Sedric Charles Williams of attempted rape and sexual battery for an attack along Highway 92 near Acworth. After a four-day trial in Canton, jurors deliberated less than an hour before returning the verdict, and sentencing is set for Tuesday, Oct. 6, with details of his prison term still pending.
   

4. Georgia Supreme Court Welcomes 2026-27 Class of Law Clerks (columbustimes.com) — A Canton native, Justin Garrett Mayo, has been selected as a term law clerk for Justice Verda Colvin on the Georgia Supreme Court, joining the court's 2026–27 class. The program brings top new lawyers to Atlanta for a year of intensive research and writing, giving Canton residents a hometown connection inside the state's highest court and spotlighting a local graduate's legal achievements.
