Special Educator Director Earns National Board Certification

CANTON, GA — The Cherokee County School District’s special education director has earned national board certification.

Executive Director Charlette Green earned the Board Certified Specialist in Child Language designation in child language from the American Board of Child Language and Language Disorders. The honor recognizes her expertise in child language and language disorders and significant contributions to the field. The national organization is dedicated to “promoting high-quality services by speech-language pathologists to children and adolescents ages birth through 21 years whose language learning may be characterized as typical, at-risk, or atypical.”

“This recognition is well-earned and well deserved,” Superintendent Brian Hightower said. “Charlette has dedicated her career to ensuring we provide students with special needs with the best educational and support services possible. She continuously improves her own knowledge and skills to the benefit of her team and the students and families they serve together.”

Green, who has led the district’s special education department since 2009, earned her bachelor’s degree in audiology and speech pathology and master’s degree in speech-language pathology from Florida State University. She began her career as an elementary school speech-language pathologist and went on to work as a special education representative and local education advisor at the school level, an education program specialist for the Georgia Department of Education, and joined the district as a supervisor for special education.

She recently served a one-year term as president of the Georgia Council of Administrators of Special Education, which is part of the International Council of Administrators of Special Education. Her numerous honors include being named a Fellow of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, Professional of the Year by the Georgia Administrators in Education Leadership and Outstanding New Special Education Administrator of the Year by the Georgia Council of Administrators of Special Education.
