It was a busy week of news across the Peach State, with stories including the continued spread of the flu across Georgia which killed a Loganville girl, school threats after a mass sooting in Florida, Georgia foodies celebrate James Beard award winners, and a sheriff who urged inmates who don't like his jail to stay out of it has his social media message go viral. Here are some of the top headlines you may have missed from this week:

Don't Like Our Jail Stay Out Of It Post, Gets Sheriff 1,000 Likes

A Facebook post made by the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office ended with, "If you don't like our jail, stay out of it." The post earned the department more than 1,000 likes, 105 shares, and, to date, 65 comments. More importantly, however, may be the substance of the post, which addressed a medical complaint made by a recent inmate.

The semifinalists for this year's James Beard Foundation Awards — dubbed the Oscars for restaurants — have been released and chefs and restaurants from Georgia made the list.
The awards, across 21 national and regional categories, were released on Thursday. While Georgia's honorees hail largely from metro Atlanta, recipients range all the way from Marietta to Brunswick. The categories include best new restaurant, best chef, outstanding baker and outstanding service, among others.

Georgia Flu Update: 79 Deaths Including 7-Year-Old Girl

The flu is still sending more Georgians to hospitals this month as the virus' death toll reaches 79 as of Feb. 10, up from 66 deaths the week before. The flu has also taken the lives of at least four Georgia children, most recently a 7-year-old girl from Walton County.

Sandy Springs Student Posts Threat To School On Snapchat: Report

A Sandy Springs middle school student is in custody and will be disciplined by school officials after posting a threat to the school, according to reports. Students at Centennial High School in Roswell saw the message at first, believing it was directed towards them, CBS reported. The threat was then circulated on social media.

Man Shot 11 Times, Killed While Changing Tire

A Decatur man was shot 11 times and killed Feb. 10 as he was changing a flat tire in a parking lot on Memorial Drive, according to police. Justin Edwards, 34, was the father of a 4-year-old son and himself the son of a DeKalb County political activist who has worked to curb gun violence.

Atlanta Traffic Among Worst In US And Worldwide: Report

Every driver in the Atlanta metro knows that the commutes are a nightmare, but you may not know that the traffic is among the worst not only in this country, but in the world. Atlanta drivers spent 10 percent of their time sitting in traffic; 17 percent of their time on the road is stuck, on average, on roads within the city.
