Man Charged With Stealing Chick-fil-A Catering Van

The van was reported stolen Nov. 8 in Cartersville and was recovered Nov. 15 in a residential neighborhood in Acworth.

CARTERSVILLE, GA -- Nearly two weeks after a Chick-fil-A catering van vanished from its Cartersville restaurant parking lot, police have made an arrest in the case. Dunwoody resident George Christian Adamson has been charged with one count of felony theft by taking of the van, Cartersville police spokesperson Lt. Mike Bettikofer said.

The 2016 white Ford Transit Connect van was believed to have been taken around 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, but the restaurant didn't report it stolen until Nov. 8 because they it was not sure if it was or wasn't being used by an employee, an incident report said.

On Wednesday, Nov. 15, the van was found parked along a residential street in Acworth. The vehicle was riddled with moderate to extensive damage, which police believe was a result of a hit-and-run with a vehicle parked in the driveway of a home.

"The homeowner came outside and observed the damage to his vehicle, found the van abandoned in the roadway and called police," he added.

Acworth police ran a check of the van's license plate, which came back as stolen out of Cartersville. They contacted their counterparts in Bartow County, and those detectives went to work in trying to solve the case.

The restaurant said anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the theft will receive free Chick-fil-A for a year, according to its Facebook page. On Friday, Chick-fil-A confirmed an arrest was made in the case, but declined to provide details about the reward and its recipient.

Bartow County Jail records show Adamson was booked into the facility around 12:10 a.m. Nov. 17 with a $5,000 bond.
