Man Reportedly Having PTSD "Issues" Charged With Murder

Investigators have charged a man — allegedly experiencing “issues” with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder — with murder following the shooting death of another resident.

Detectives with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday filed felony murder charges against Cartersville resident Truitt Jermaine Cousin, Sheriff Clark Millsap said.

The victim in Tuesday’s shooting has been identified as Jamaal Terrell Williams, 32, also of Cartersville. Cousin is being held in the Bartow County Jail pending a Superior Court bond hearing, Millsap added.

Deputies and investigators with the agency responded to 307 Iron Belt Court in Cartersville just after 1 p.m. March 17 in reference to a man “having issues with PTSD who was armed with a gun,” Millsap previously told Patch.

A woman flagged down deputies who arrived onto the scene, and told them she’d just ran from the apartment unit when she heard a gunshot.

Deputies then located Cousin, who lives at the apartment unit.

“Cousin was acting extremely strange and was screaming profanities and random words,” Millsap said. “Deputies then located a 32-year-old male victim inside the apartment with multiple gunshot wounds.”

The victim, identified as Williams, transported to Floyd Medical Center where he died from his injuries, the sheriff stated.

Cousin was initially detained following the shooting. Additionally, he had no criminal record with the sheriff’s office, as he had reportedly just moved to the area Millsap stated.
