1. Columbus installing 30 AEDs in parks, public spaces (wtvm.com) — Columbus is installing 30 automated external defibrillators in parks, trails and public spaces so residents can respond faster when someone goes into cardiac arrest. By calling 911, residents will get remote access to the AED boxes and guided instructions, a move local EMS leaders say could significantly improve survival chances when emergencies happen away from easy ambulance access.
   

2. Determining why the younger generation is not involved in the community (wrbl.com) — Local leaders and residents in Columbus are wrestling with why many under 40 aren't voting or getting involved, even as the city promotes new jobs and young-professional programs. Voices from the Chamber of Commerce, City Hall, and community groups describe competing views on opportunity, representation, and how to give younger residents a real seat at the table.
   

3. One of the nation's largest rowing regattas could move to Columbus. Impact explained (ledger-enquirer.com) — Columbus is being seriously considered as a backup host for the Head of the Hooch rowing regatta, which could bring an estimated $9.5 million a year and thousands of hotel nights if it relocates. Local tourism and sports leaders are weighing about $700,000 in riverfront infrastructure that could also attract other water sports events and expand use of the Chattahoochee.
   

4. Estimated 2-week road closure in Columbus will affect Muscogee and Harris counties (ledger-enquirer.com) — Drivers in north Columbus should prepare for Pierce Chapel Road to close between Veterans Parkway and Blackmon Road for about two weeks starting Sept. 21. The $72.3 million widening of Veterans Parkway aims to improve safety and handle growing residential and commercial traffic, with work funded through the Transportation Investment Act.
   

5. Shaping their future: Columbus students get glimpse of opportunities at career expo (ledger-enquirer.com) — Columbus eighth-graders recently explored future careers and high school magnet options at the LOTT career expo hosted at the Columbus Civic Center. With local employers, Muscogee County schools and the Greater Columbus Chamber of Commerce involved, the event aimed to keep homegrown talent in the region by helping students make more informed choices about high school and beyond.
