Pinecrest Academy eighth grader, Jim Stewart, is winner of the 2012 Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church Pro-life Essay Contest. He will receive a cash award of $100 at Pinecrest's 8th grade Passing Ceremony the evening of May 17.
Essay contestants were instructed to use Church teaching (The Catechism of the Catholic Church, statements and documents of the U.S. Bishops, and Biblical reference) to support the moral stance that the unborn in the womb are already unique human persons, made in the likeness of God, and endowed with sacred human dignity.
Completed essays were due to Rick Barnett, head of the IHM Pro-Life Ministry, by the Solemnity of the Annunciation on March 25, 2012.
