Cumming Man's Death May Be Linked To Forsyth Overdoses

A Cumming man who was dropped off at a hospital in Monroe on Saturday would be the third fatal drug overdose in the area since Sunday.

MONROE, GA β€” The death of a man from Cumming in Walton County is being linked to a string of drug overdoses in Forsyth County.

On Saturday, Jeffrey Kim Wilson, 28, of Cumming, was dropped off at about 1:30 a.m. at Clearview Medical Center in Monroe, according to police.

He was unconscious upon his arrival at the hospital and was later pronounced dead by medical staff. Monroe Police said they were later able to make contact with a man and woman who dropped him off at the hospital and left him there.

The exact cause of Wilson's death remains under investigation. But, on Tuesday, police told the Forsyth County News that it may be related to a spate of drug overdoses that have killed two people in Forsyth County since the weekend.

"At this time, we cannot rule out that Wilson’s death and the recent deaths in Forsyth County are not in some way related," Monroe Police Chief Keith Glass told the paper in a statement. "We will be working with several other agencies to answer the many questions surrounding Wilson’s death."

In Forsyth County, the sheriff's office has reported four drug overdoses β€” two of them fatal β€” since Sunday.

On Monday, a 19 year old died from a heroin overdose in the Polo Fields area of Cumming. The sheriff's office has not yet released details about that case.

On Sunday, Jacob Riley Oglesby, 33, was found dead in his home of an apparent heroin overdose, authorities say. A sheriff's deputy arrived at the home, on Valley Lane, at about 5:26 a.m. to find Oglesby unresponsive, not breathing and without a pulse.

The deputy attempted to administer the anti-overdose drug Narcan to Oglesby, but got no response. Deputies found what appeared to be heroin, marijuana and Xanax in Oglesby's backpack and a syringe and spoon with a brown substance in it in the bathroom where he was discovered.

At about 1:26 p.m. on Sunday, Oglesby's girlfriend, a 28-year-old woman, was found having suffered an overdose at the same address. Her father called the sheriff's office after arriving at the home to find her unconscious and having trouble breathing.

EMS personnel administered Narcan and she was taken to the hospital in serious condition, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies found large amounts of heroin, marijuana, cocaine, Xanax and other pills throughout the house, as well as three handguns. A syringe was found in a garbage pail in the woman's bedroom.

Then, shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday, a 30-year-old man in Suwanee suffered an overdose. The man's girlfriend told deputies he had "snorted Oxy," short for Oxycontin.

He was conscious, but not coherent, when deputies arrived and was transported to a hospital, where he was listed in serious condition, according to the sheriff's office.

Investigators were looking into whether a bad batch of heroin or another drug contributed to the sudden rash of overdoses but, according to a sheriff's office spokesman, nothing had been concluded as of Tuesday morning.
