Deputy Helps Deliver Baby On Side of the Road
The Forsyth County family was on the way to the hospital for the delivery of their third child.

CUMMING, GA -- A Forsyth County deputy and a 911 communications officer earned a very special assist recently, helping deliver a baby alongside a busy highway.
A local family was on the way to the hospital for the delivery of their third child when, sensing they weren't going to make it, they called 911.
Communications officer Julie Sims took the call, and alerted Deputy Matthew Pittman, who was nearby, the sheriff's office said in a Facebook post Wednesday.

Pittman arrived within minutes of the call, the post said.
"Officer Sims walked the father through every step of childbirth while remaining extremely calm," the post said. "Officer Sims demonstrated perfectly why we love our communications officers so much!"

After the baby -- named Mia -- was delivered, Pittman helped the father clean her up and wrap her in the father's t-shirt.
The Facebook post noted that both Sims and Pittman are less than a year into their public safety careers. You wouldn't know it, though, from their successful child-delivery work.
"Mom, Dad, and baby Mia are doing great!" the post reads. "Deputy Pittman stopped by the next evening to say hello!"
