Deputy, Suspect IDed in Forsyth Shooting
The suspect shot a deputy sheriff in the leg Thursday, before eventually turning the gun on himself, ending his life.
CUMMING, GA — Forsyth County authorities have identified the sheriff's deputy who was shot in the legs while responding to a domestic dispute on Sunday, and the man who shot him before eventually turning the gun on himself, taking his own life.
At 3:08 p.m. Sunday, deputies had responded to a call of a domestic dispute at a home home on Akins Way, according to Forsyth County Sheriff's Office spokesman Deputy Douglas Rainwater.
When they arrived, they were trying to get 35-year-old Elias Alexander Quintero to come outside and speak with them when they "came under significant and sustained gunfire" from a high-powered rifle, according to Rainwater.

As deputies were returning fire, one of them was shot. Deputy First Class Jon Beival was shot twice in the lower leg, Rainwater said.
Fellow deputies placed a tourniquet on the leg and he was immediately evacuated to a local hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Beival is a six-year veteran of the sheriff's office who is assigned to its North precinct, uniform patrol division. He was released from Northside Forsyth Hospital Sunday evening and was home with his family recovering, Rainwater said.
A standoff at the home continued until late Sunday, after a SWAT team had been called in. Also responding to the situation were a Cherokee County SWAT team, members of a north Fulton County SWAT team, Georgia State Patrol officers and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
Rainwater said that, after attempts at negotiation failed, Quintero took his own life. No one else other than Beival was injured during the standoff.
The shooting investigation has been turned over to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. The two deputies who returned Quintero's fire have been placed on routine administrative leave, which is standard policy for officer-involved shootings.
