A Free, Fun-Filled, Math Event for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders

LOCAL KIDS GETTING READY FOR THIS YEAR’S MATHNASIUM TRIMATHLON CONTEST

Student Participation to Raise $40,000 for Schools in the U.S. & Canada and Demonstrate That Math Can Be Fun

Event Sponsors include Lakeshore Learning, Rubik’s, Smarties, and PFL

Suwanee, Georgia September 15, 2015 – Students in South Forsyth, Suwanee and Johns Creek are getting ready to test their math skills while raising funds for local schools.

Mathnasium’s TriMathlon contest is designed encourage kids to engage in math and to support local schools. Children at all levels of math ability are invited to participate. In addition to winning medals, all students who participate this year will earn money for local schools with a donation for each student participating in the event. The winner at each grade level will be entered into the Grand Prize TriMathlon.

The competition, open to 2nd- through 5th-grade students, will be held at 12:00pm on October 18 at Mathnasium of South Forsyth at 2631 Peachtree Parkway (at 141/Brookwood). Participation is free and registration is now open at mathnasiumtrimathlon.com.

“Mathnasium’s TriMathlon provides a wonderful opportunity for kids to engage in math in a fun way that also gives back to the community,” said Kevin Carnes, President of Lakeshore’s Education Division. “We’re proud to support this event and inspire more kids to develop a love for math.”

The TriMathlon consists of three events:

· Magic Squares, where students are awarded points for developing their own math problems.

· The Counting Game, which tests students’ ability to count from any number, to any number, by any number.

· Mental Math Workout, which asks students to solve problems without a pencil and paper in order to show off their “number sense.”

Students do not need to be enrolled in a Mathnasium center to participate. Prep materials, including a practice test, are available on the Mathnasium TriMathlon website (www.mathnasiumtrimathlon.com), where students can also register.

Participants will have money donated to local schools on behalf of their participation. Mathnasium is targeting an aggregate donation of about $40,000 throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The top scorers across all TriMathlon competitions will be invited to move on to the Grand Prize TriMathlon, to be held at the winner’s local Mathnasium center the following weekend.

All participants, regardless of how they place on the test, will receive fun goody bags. Participants who register by September 30 also receive a free downloadable Math Quiz Game Show (retail value: $19.99) from Lakeshore Learning. Grand Prize winners receive a Rubik’s prize pack and Mathnasium scholarship.
