FORSYTH COUNTY, GA — Scientific Games is working with WorkSource Georgia Mountains to offer local college students internships in the state's hottest fields, including two local students from South Forsyth and Alpharetta High Schools. Students imbedded with the gaming entertainment company's Engineering, Product Development, Auditing, Retail Solutions, Marketing, Interactive Services, Creative Studios, Security & Compliance departments to gain real-world experience as an extension of their college studies.

“We had a great experience hosting a diverse group of extremely talented and hardworking students and new grads this summer,” said Eric Ewald, VP of Human Resources at Scientific Games. “Their eagerness to learn and contribute was impressive, and we know they will go on to accomplish great things in their careers.”

The purpose of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act is to provide funding for education and training to individuals creating a quality workforce for Georgia businesses while reducing the training costs for employers.

A graduate of South Forsyth High School and now a sophomore at Georgia Tech majoring in Computer Science, Revanth Tiruveedhi spent the summer interning with the Scientific Games Lottery Product Development team through the WorkSource Georgia Mountains program.

“As an intern, I looked for innovative ways to introduce Artificial Intelligence into some of the projects happening right now at Scientific Games. I had the opportunity to work on projects related to finding patterns within customer data using Machine Learning that regular software or human input would not necessarily be able to identify,” shared Tiruveedhi.

“The entire internship has been quite a learning experience. I have been better able to understand the depth of the subject that I will be studying for the next few years. Computer Science is such a large field and the ‘real world’ experience I had at Scientific Games taught me that programming is not just writing endless lines of code, it is a tool used to build and innovate a product or service.”

Businesses need innovative ways to build tools that are relevant to serving the purpose of their company, Tiruveedhi said.

"After working on advancing legacy solutions at Scientific Games, I am determined to have a career that brings new technologies like Artificial Intelligence to fix new problems and improve existing solutions,” he added.

An Alpharetta High School graduate who recently earned a Marketing degree from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, Kelly Hogan interned in the Lottery group’s Marketing & Insights department at Scientific Games.

“Though it was challenging to learn and understand a new industry, my team at Scientific Games provided endless support, took interest in my growth, gave me hands-on experiences, and included me in meetings with leadership," Hogan said. "From my internship experience, I have been able to expand my overall knowledge of marketing, and add to my skills in analytics, market research, creativity and writing.”

Support of WorkSource Georgia Mountains is part of the commitment Scientific Games has made to invest in young and emerging innovators in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) education. The company recently announced it was continuing its support of the K-12 GEORGIA FIRST Robotics program.
