Suspect Runs, Swims From Cops After Ga. 400 Crash
Forsyth County sheriff's deputies say a man they were pursuing jumped into Lake Lanier during the chase.

CUMMING, GA -- It wasn't quite a triathlon. But there were running and swimming portions to a crazy police chase Forsyth County deputies were led on Monday near -- and in -- Lake Lanier.
It all started with a crash on Ga. 400.
The wreck happened on 400 North, at Lake Lanier Bridge, south of Exit 16.

But, after the wreck, the man believed to have caused it ran away.
"We set up a great perimeter thanks to there being so many units in the south end at the time," the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post. "K-9 was deployed while units from all across the agency assisted."

That didn't stop the man from jumping into Lake Lanier and attempting to swim across it, the post said.
But it didn't work out for him.
The suspect was spotted, and deputies began following along behind him in a boat as he swam.
"He was then surrounded on a small and heavily wooded peninsula, where he was quickly taken into custody," the post said.
The suspect was turned over to the Georgia State Patrol, which was handling the crash because it happened within Cumming city limits.
On Facebook, one follower made the same joke, noting that the suspect was "one bike ride away from being a triathlete."
"Our Bicycle Patrol Unit would have been really excited about that," the sheriff's office replied, "but it seems we caught him too quickly... ."
