Teacher In $6 Million Coke, Heroin Bust Resigns

GAINESVILLE, GA β A Georgia middle school teacher arrested during a $6.2 million cocaine and heroin bust has resigned.
The Hall County Board of Education on Monday accepted the resignation of Karla Alvarez, 28, of Oakwood.
Alvarez taught Spanish and coached the girls' soccer team at Chestatee Middle School.

She and two others were arrested after a March 16 raid of a home in Hall County, where authorities say they found 61 kilograms of cocaine, a kilogram of heroin and two semi-automatic rifles.
The drugs had an estimated street value of $6,209,280.

Monica Pascual Brito, 24, also was arrested after the bust. Authorities with a drug task force were seeking her brother, 25-year-old Ricardo Pascual Brito, as well.
Alvarez had been on unpaid leave at the Gainesville school until Monday.
