Woman Who Helped Man Escape Jail Work Detail Arrested

A woman has been arrested in connection with the escape of a man from a jail work detail outside Cumming police headquarters on Friday.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Margaret Cheryl Broome has been charged with aiding escape, hindering apprehension, and possession of controlled substances. Broome, 57, remains in custody at the Forsyth County Jail as of Saturday afternoon.

Koby Blanchard was part of a detail at the Cumming Police Department’s headquarters on Friday when he walked away from the detail and escaped. Police notified the Sheriff’s Office, which is now taking over the search for the escaped prisoner.

Blanchard has been charged with burglary, arson, and theft in the past, says the Sheriff’s Office. Authorities do not believe that Blanchard is armed or that he is a danger to the general public at this time.

Anyone who sees Blanchard or knows where he may be found should call 911 immediately.
