The Carolyn Driskell Garden was dedicated Thursday morning in the memory of a middle-school girl who died tragically earlier this year.

Paulding County School District spokesperson Suzanne Wooley said in an email that Austin Middle School students raised money for the garden, constructed in honor of Carolyn Driskell, who was a seven-grader when she was killed in a murder-suicide in January.

Her father, Paulding Sheriff’s Deputy Sam Driskell, and her mother, Muachin Driskell, were also killed in the tragedy.
Some deputies were on hand for the Thursday dedication.
Family members in attendance were given a box of letters from Carolyn’s classmates, written after the January shootings. They also were presented three yearbooks containing a dedication pages to Carolyn.
Mrs. McGrady and Ms. Holcombe worked with the students on the project, and Mr. Byers built the garden, Wooley said.
