Chairman Carmichael signed the County’s declaration last Thursday morning after much input from the medical community, emergency management officials, post commissioners, and county leadership. The pandemic is a situation and challenge with global impact. It spans the globe and the nation. We, as Paulding County leaders/managers, are responsible for the activation of resolutions to support and uphold our local citizens’ well-being. Chairman Carmichael says that it is very gratifying to work collaboratively with Mayor Kelly and Mayor Moran to mirror solutions and provide systematic continuity for our people.

The City of Hiram approved their declaration also on Thursday of last week. Mayor Frank Moran of Hiram stresses the importance of having a united front in our responses. He says that all of us need to be on the same page with the President, the Governor, and for our citizens to comply with the standards and modifications.

Mayor James Kelly of Dallas announced the adoption of their emergency declaration ordinance in their Mayor and Council meeting on Monday, March 30, 2020. Their declaration echoes that of both the County and Hiram. Mayor Kelly says that he had the opportunity last week to sit in a meeting with our local State Legislators, County Officials, Department Heads, and the Mayor of Hiram. This meeting gave us the opportunity to discuss the issues at hand and we were all unanimous with regard to the emergency measures that need to be taken. Mayor Kelly stresses that we know that these declarations will have a huge impact on businesses, but at this time, desperate times call for desperate measures.

These three declarations represent a united front by Paulding County and the Cities of Dallas and Hiram. To quote Mayor Kelly, “it was nice to be amongst all the officials from our county and cities, and to see that we are all united in the wellbeing and protection of our citizens.”
