E. Paulding Wrestler Loses Title in OT
Two other Raiders place at the state championships to lift the team to ninth place in AAAA.
Demtre Liguori pushed his 189-pound AAAA championship match to overtime before falling Saturday, but he was the top wrestler from Paulding County in the Georgia Traditional Wrestling Championships at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.
Liguori trailed Omar Waller of Woodland in Stockbridge by a point, but Waller was called for stalling with less than five seconds left in the third period, tying the match at 3 and sending it into overtime. Waller got the jump on Liguori in overtime, however, and scored a quick takedown for the 5-3 win and the state title.
Liguori's strong tournament helped East Paulding finish ninth in the state with 46 points. Also placing for the Raiders were Eric Badertscher in third at 285 pounds and Jonathan Lytle in fifth at 215 pounds.
