Elementary School’s Fate Could Be Decided Tonight

Paulding School Board members could vote to close P.B. Ritch Elementary, effective the end of this school year.

Parents and students tonight could learn if the 2011-2012 school year will be the last one for .

On the Paulding County School Board’s agenda tonight is a vote regarding the phase-out of P.B. Ritch. Board members back in April , but the vote did not put a definitive time on closing the school. District officials revealed that they would seek board approval on .

Depending on the district’s course of action, P.B. Ritch students could be sent next year to , and/or elementary schools—officials last month said those schools could be set to take in P.B. Ritch students once the school closes.

Associate Superintendent Brian Otott during the public hearing said a plan to redistrict in the wake of the school’s closing would be similar to the process the district is currently undertaking due to . District officials will host a public hearing on the latest middle school redistricting developments Thursday at 7 p.m. at .

Board members also will do a bit of annual housekeeping during tonight’s meeting, as they will elect a board chairman and vice chairman for the year. The board is then slated to select a board attorney—Tom Cable currently serves in that role.
