Notice is hereby given that the Paulding County Board of Education (PCBOE) will conduct a public hearing concerning proposed changes to Board member qualifying districts on December 13, 2011, at 6:15 p.m. in the Board Room, Paulding County School District Office, 3236 Atlanta Highway, Dallas, Georgia 30132. Interested persons will be given an opportunity to speak concerning this proposed change.
Current enabling legislation divides the county into six districts with the 7th district at‐large (the entire county). PCBOE members must qualify in their district, but all PCBOE members are elected county‐wide. Due to the growth in the county over the last ten years, redistricting has been proposed to more equitably reflect the change in population. The number of districts will not change.
The PCBOE does not have the authority to change district lines. Proposed changes would be submitted to the local delegation for introduction at the next legislative session. The proposal must also be submitted to the apportionment office and the U.S. Justice Department.
