Fire At East Paulding High Damages Gym
The blaze at the Dallas school took hours for firefighters to bring under control on Friday, according to county officials.
DALLAS, GA — A fire Friday at East Paulding High School caused extensive damage to the school gym, sparking an hours-long effort by firefighters to control the blaze.
"(I)t appears there will be extensive damage to the school's main gym," the Paulding County School District announced in a Facebook post. "The building is currently under renovation and there were no students in the vicinity. Thankfully there are no injuries to report."
The afternoon fire appears to have been started by sparks from construction work being done in the roof area of the main gymnasium, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

The school district has a systemwide summer construction program underway. It includes $5.3 million in renovations at East Paulding High, including resurfacing a metal roof and installation of new heating, ventilation and air conditioning ducts.
The sheriff's office said there was heavy smoke and water damage to the gym and locker room areas.
