GENERAL FACTS ABOUT STATE COURTS IN GEORGIA
- There are currently 71 counties in Georgia with State Courts.
- State Courts are the highest level of county-supported trial court in the State’s judicial branch of government.
- State Courts have jurisdiction over criminal and traffic misdemeanor cases. They also have jurisdiction over civil cases except those in which exclusive jurisdiction is vested in the Superior Courts.
- Over 76 % of Georgians are served by State Courts, according to the Georgia Council of State Court Judges.
