Good Mexican Restaurant in Northern Paulding
Various Mexican dishes await in this casual dining spot.
Plenty of Mexican restaurants are scattered throughout Paulding County, so Los MaGueys can be easily overlooked. Hidden in a small, strip center in north Paulding, Los MaGueys Mexican Restaurant is worth a visit.
The Maguey plant is grown in Mexico. Taking years to mature, the plant’s fermented sap is used to make Agave Tequila, the traditional drink of Mexico. Authentic to its namesake, Los Magueys offers a variety of Tequila brands from which your favorite margarita can be composed.
The dining area of the restaurant is quite small and can feel cramped on a busy Saturday; nevertheless, meals are served very promptly and tables turn over rather quickly. Some in the friendly wait staff do not speak English fluently; however, it will not hamper your efforts to order whatever you like from the large menu. Of course, all patrons are given a basket of chips with salsa. The Quesco cheese dip is some of the best in the county and can be ordered with or without jalapeños. Containing everything from speed lunch specials to “Los Magueys combination dinners,” everyone can find a Mexican-American dish to suite their palate.

For this visit, I ordered the Burrito Jumbo, which is a super-sized burrito packed with grilled chicken (or beef), rice, beans, lettuce and sour cream. A burrito containing both a meat and beans has become a challenge throughout the Paulding County Mexican eatery scene. Most restaurants will offer EITHER a meat or beans, rarely both. Predictably, the Burrito Jumbo is such a large portion; I have the remainder of my entrée the following day for lunch.
Other menu items include tamales, nachos, enchiladas, tacos and other various combination dinners. Items can be ordered a la carte and a “half order” menu option is available. Children’s plates, for those under 12 years old, are obtainable. The desserts include sopapillas, which are fried flour tortillas with honey and butter; fried ice cream; churros and fruit “chimichangas.”

Items are appropriately priced for this area. Most entrees are $7.75 - $12.50; however, all “Los Magueys Combination Dinners” are priced at $7.29, which is a good value. Recent health department food scores have been 96 for May and 95 for June. The restaurant has always appeared clean when I have visited. The dining room can accommodate larger parties for special occasions and an outdoor dining area is available, weather permitting.
If you are looking for a local, comfortable and casual Mexican restaurant for lunch or dinner, Los Magueys would be a good choice. Mr. Hernandez, owner, has two other locations in Ringgold and Calhoun.
