Hiram Homeowners Get Special 2017 Homestead Exemption
Qualified home owners within the City Limits of Hiram will be eligible for exemptions from the city's ad valorem taxes.

HIRAM, GA — Qualified home owners within the City Limits of Hiram under the age of 65 will be eligible for a $40,000 exemption from City of Hiram ad valorem taxes. The $40,000 is deducted from the 40 percent assessed value of the homesteaded property.
- Qualified owners within the City of Hiram between the age of 65 and 69 will be eligible for a $55,000 exemption from City of Hiram ad valorem taxes. The $55,000 is deducted from the 40 percent assessed value of the homesteaded property.
- Qualified owners within the City of Hiram over the age of 70 will be eligible to be exempted from all City of Hiram ad valorem taxes.
Owners within the City of Hiram currently receiving homestead exemption will automatically qualify for the new exemption. Owners not receiving homestead exemption must apply by April 1, 2018 to qualify for any homestead exemption.
To qualify for a homestead exemption, the applicant's name must appear on the deed to the property and they must own, occupy and claim the property as their legal residence on January 1 to be eligible for any exemption for that tax year. The applicant may claim exemptions on only one property; this includes other Georgia counties and other states.

Exemption applications are accepted year round; however applications must be received before April 1st of the year in which the exemption is to be applied. You must provide legal evidence of residency and United States citizenship, such as a Georgia driver's license or Georgia ID card. Exemptions are not automatic and each exemption must be applied for individually.
The applicant must reapply for any exemption if a name changes or change of ownership occurs due to marriage, death or divorce; a copy of a recorded deed, marriage certificate or divorce decree must be provided.

You must notify the Tax Assessors office in the event you no longer qualify for an exemption.
Homeowners can apply for a homestead exemption at the Tax Assessors Office, located at 240 Constitution Blvd, in the Watson Government Complex on the third floor of the Administration Building in Dallas, GA 30132.
