Hiram Police Announce Special 4/20 Day 'Offer'

In a tongue-in-cheek post on 4/20, Hiram Police offered to "test" marijuana for anyone who brings it to the police station.

HIRAM, GA — They're here to protect and serve, sure. But Paulding County marijuana enthusiasts might want to think twice before taking the Hiram Police Department up on a special 4/20 offer made on Facebook.

"It's National #420Day and for today only we're willing to complete a GBI certified test on your marijuana to let you know if it's real or not for FREE," the department posted on its Facebook page Thursday morning.

For those still in a fog, April 20 — or 4/20 — is a day pot smokers celebrate all things marijuana-related. The numerical term is code for smoking marijuana, and is believed to have originated among California high schoolers in the early 1970s.

But who would have thought local police would get in on the fun, right? The social media "special offer" even comes with some added perks.

"Just personally deliver yours to the PD for a FREE test," the post reads. "If it is, we'll even give you a free stay with other lucky winners at the finest resort in Paulding County!"

Predictably, some commenters on the Facebook post objected to the nature of the post, arguing that marijuana shouldn't be illegal in the first place. But most folks seemed willing to roll with its tongue-in-cheek nature.

"Somebody is going to be high as heck and take them up on this!" one Facebook user wrote.

"Aw, c'mon ... let a real person test it," wrote another. "I'm available."
