Jobless Rate in Paulding County Rose in June
The Georgia Department of Labor said unemployment was up in many places across the metro, too.

The unemployment rate in Paulding County rose in June, according to data released Thursday by the Georgia Department of Labor.

The rate in Paulding climbed three-tenths of a percentage point to 5.6 percent last month, up from 5.3 in May. The rate in June 2014 was 6.7, the data showed.

The labor department said metro Atlanta’s rate was up one-tenth of a point in June -- 6.0, up from 5.9 in May, but considerably less than June 2014 (7.3).

The rate rose as the number of jobs declined and new layoffs, as measured by unemployment insurance claims, increased, the labor department said.
Metro Gainesville had the lowest area jobless rate at 5.3 percent. The Heart of Georgia-Altamaha region had the highest at 8.2.
Georgia’s seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate for June was 6.1 percent, down from 6.3 in May. It was 7.3 percent in June 2014.
