Millage Rate, Road Contract To Be Voted on Today

’ millage rate could be set to remain the same for another year should school board members vote today to hold it steady.

Brian Otott, associate superintendent for Paulding County Schools, said school board members at this morning’s meeting will be presented with a proposal to keep the millage at 18.909 mills—the rate at which it has stayed since the 2007-2008 school year.

The school board last month , which took into account an unchanged millage rate. School system officials expect for FY2013 to pull in $192 million in revenues but expend $199 million, leaving an estimated deficit of $7 million. That difference is expected to bring the district’s reserves to just under $15 million.

Officials last month estimated that the millage would generate about $48.23 million of the district’s estimated $192 million in FY2013 revenues.

Other board action could see the naming of one of the district’s athletic fields and approval of a revision on a board policy on the adoption of board policy.

“It’s a clarification of a practice the board has had for years. Basically, there was some concern over language in the policy that we’re revising allowing us to actually vote to revise board policy without it sitting on the table for a month. This allows us to, and it’s been our practice, if we bring a revision to the board, we can have [board members] approve that revision at that meeting as presented,” Otott said.

County Commissioners To Consider Road Contract

Over at the Watson Government Complex, the today are set to consider a contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation for resurfacing 7.72 miles of county roads. The cost of the project would be just over $1 million.

Another contract to be considered is a renewal with the Georgia Department of Corrections for an inmate work detail at a cost of $39,500.

The contracts will be among the business discussed at this morning’s work session, while votes on them are set to come during tonight’s business session.

The Paulding County School Board meets at 8:30 a.m. at the , while the will hold its work session at 10 a.m. and business session at 7 p.m.—both in the second-floor boardroom of the Watson Government Complex. The agendas for the morning meetings are attached to this article.
