Morton Wins Bagging Competition

The Kroger associate will move on to represent the grocery store in the Georgia Food Industry Association Competition.

A associate from won the store's state-wide "Bag-Off" competition, securing his spot to represent the grocer next month in the Georgia Food Industry Association’s “Bag-Off” competition.

Alex Morton competed against nine coworkers for the chance to represent . Coming in second was Troy Yearby of , and third place finalist was J.D. Straight of . All three finalists will receive scholarships.

"We were extremely impressed with the competition at this year’s 'Bag-Off,'" says Glynn Jenkins, director of communications and public relations for Atlanta Division. "Troy, J.D. and all of the competitors had exceptional talent, and we look forward to cheering on Alex at the Georgia Food Industry Association's competition next month."

This year's "Bag-Off" – which took place on June 20 at the in – judged Kroger's top baggers across the state on the proper way to pack a grocery bag, including weight distribution, speed, technique, overall style, appearance and attitude. As the winner, Morton will move on to the Georgia Food Industry Association's "Bag-Off" competition, which takes place on July 12 in Orlando.

Georgia's best bagger will be invited to compete against the nation's top baggers at the National Grocers Association Best Baggers Contest in Las Vegas. The national competition will be held in February 2013.
