For several years the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been pressuring the county to find another location for the old training center in order to officially close the landfill. The old training center sat atop land that was part of the Paulding County landfill, which is in the Seven Hills Community.

Since he took office in 2009, Sheriff Gulledge has been working with the Industrial Building Authority (IBA), Commission Chairman David Austin, County Manager Mike Jones, and former Community Development Director Chuck Rann as well as a host of other individuals to make this project a reality.

Sheriff Gulledge stated, “Once all phases of this training center have been completed, it will be a state of the art facility and will not only train our Deputies, but it will train law enforcement officers from all over this region how to better do their job.”

The new facility has been the culmination of years of work by many different people. The first phase of the project, which was recently completed, consists of the majority of all of the site work. This includes paved parking lots and roadways, a state of the art 20 lane pistol firing range, and most all of the preparation work for the future phases of the facility.

Although the first phase of the training center is the only thing completed at this time, there are several additional phases which will be completed at a later date once funding becomes available. Future phases will include the addition of a 400-yard rifle range, a live fire “shoot house”, a shotgun range, an obstacle course, a rappelling tower, a K-9 agility course, along with a state of the art class room/office building.

The Sheriff’s Office Training Center is not open to the public, but it is open to P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement officers. If you want more information, you can contact the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office Training Center at (678) 363-3075.
