News Nearby: Missing Austell Man Found Safe

The 78-year-old was located trying to buy gas in Fulton County.

A missing Austell man whose disappearance sparked a Mattie’s Call has been located safe, Cobb County police say.

Officer Mike Bowman tells Patch that 78-year-old Francisco Jose Garcia was located at a gas station on Fulton Industrial Boulevard attempting to buy gas for his vehicle just after midnight on Aug. 16. A department press release indicates that Fulton County police discovered Garcia inside his black 1995 Isuzu Rodeo.

According to the release, Garcia originally disappeared from the 3000 block of Sweet Flag Run in Austell at approximately 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 13. His wife told police that her husband had left the house without his glasses or his medications for his heart and kidney. His bank card recorded a transaction in Conyers at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 14.

Garcia has been returned to his family.
