Ordinance Governing New Carwashes Gets Council Approval

Water-recycling system to be required on carwashes built this year and beyond.

Owners of new car washes in Dallas will now have an additional city ordinance to follow.

The Dallas city council approved an ordinance Monday that will require water-recycling systems on some carwashes—those that have conveyor systems that pull vehicles through them and were built after Jan. 1 of this year. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division required the city’s passage of the ordinance.

Council also approved a one-year renewal of the city’s contract for residential and commercial garbage service at no cost increase.

“The city, quite a few years back, decided that to keep the city clean and under our control and to keep a bunch of garbage trucks off the streets, that they would just use one garbage company, and that if you had our water service, you had to use our garbage company,” City Manager Kendall Smith said. “If you’re on our water system inside the city, you have our garbage service, and this is our garbage company.”
