On April 18, 2015 Sergeant Miller responded to a cardiac arrest call in a local Paulding County neighborhood. Being the first one to arrive on scene, he noticed that the patient was in distress. He immediately attached an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to the patient in order to assess the situation. The AED advised that no shock was necessary and to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).

Sergeant Miller gave CPR until EMS personnel could arrive on the scene and take over. Doctors and other medical professionals later stated that if Sergeant Miller had not performed CPR, the patient likely would have perished.

“If it weren’t for the quick actions of Sergeant Miller, it is likely that the patient would have died. I am proud to have him as one of my supervisors in the Patrol Division,” Sheriff Gary Gulledge said.

Sergeant Miller is a 17-year veteran of the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office and has served in many capacities while being employed. Sergeant Miller was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Board of Commissioners along with a “Dinner for Two” Gift Card from Texas Roadhouse.
