The East Paulding Raiders upset Osborne on Saturday to earn the right to play the top-seeded Pope Greyhounds on Wednesday. With an opportunity to advance to the state basketball tournament on the line, the Raiders fell short, losing to Pope 70-49 in the quarterfinal round of the Region 5-AAAA tournament. Christian Browder led the Raiders with 11 points while Michael Barney added 10. But East Paulding fell in the end, just as they did in December to this same Pope team.

East Paulding needed one more win to qualify for the state tournament. Pope had other plans.
