PAULDING COUNTY, GA — The first-ever Paulding County Sheriff's Department Polar Plunge was a huge success, according to deputies. The event, held Feb. 17, raised $3,000 for the Paulding County Special Olympics.

"We would like to thank all of the participants along with those who donated time, effort and money," reads a Paulding County Sheriff's Facebook post.

Deputy Eric Pace issued a challenge to his longtime friend Deputy Alex Hicks, both of whom took their first-ever Polar Plunge. The challenge was for the "King of the Cold" title.

The sheriff's deputies were selling tickets for $5 each, or four tickets for $10, and donators bet on one or the other as to who was able to stay in the water the longest.

Hicks was crowned the “King of the Cold.”
