Washington, D.C. – After Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) and his fellow Georgia House Republicans voiced their strong opposition last month to the Obama administration’s effort to ban common sporting ammunition for the AR-15, the administration announced yesterday that it will shelve its proposal.

Speaking of its reversal, Rep. Graves said: “While the Obama administration still needs to drop its proposal entirely, this is a big win for all the conservatives who fought this federal overreach. By stopping the administration’s effort to erode our Second Amendment rights, we protected the Constitution and the gun rights of law abiding citizens across the country. Rest assured, I will continue fighting any administration effort to resurrect this proposal.”

The Obama administration’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) reported receiving more than 80,000 public comments on its ammo ban proposal, the vast majority of which were negative.

Last month, Rep. Graves joined his Georgia House Republican colleagues in sending a letter to ATF Director Todd Jones, voicing their opposition to the administration’s ammo ban effort. The letter is available here: http://dougcollins.house.gov/uploads/GA%20HOUSE%20AMMO%20LETTER2.pdf
